In 2018, the Telegraph published an article stating that nearly nine in ten people had at least one unhealthy trait such as smoking, drinking more than 14 units of alcohol or eating unhealthy foods. 33% of all men in the U.K had at least two unhealthy traits. With Men’s Health Week officially underway we decided to discuss some of the simple lifestyle changes that can lead to men living longer, happier and healthier lives.

Stop the habit of smoking

One of the most detrimental things a man can do to his own health is smoke. The NHS deems that 20% of all male deaths are linked to smoking. Smoking causes heart disease, cancer and strokes. On top of this, smoking can damage your DNA which can then cause infertility. Therefore, stopping the habit is one of the most beneficial changes you can make in your life.

Change your sleep cycle

Are you getting at least 8 hours a night? Changing your sleep cycle is another simple lifestyle change that you can make to improve your overall quality of life. There are many benefits to a good night’s sleep such as it is keeping your heart healthy, reducing stress, helping the body repair itself and possibly helping to prevent cancer.

Reap the rewards of exercise

Regular exercise is highly beneficial for your overall health. 30 minutes a day is all it takes to reap the benefits of your hard work. Some of these benefits are reducing your risk of a heart attack, weight management, having lower blood pressure and a healthier state of mind.

Benefit from a balanced diet

Finally, changing your diet is highly beneficial. One of the biggest benefits to eating healthy is weight loss. If you have bad eating habits you may be more prone to things such as heart disease, non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and poor bone density.
